My Story

Growing up as the youngest of three siblings, I found there was never a shortage of books around the house. My mom, a talented library technician and teacher, introduced us to books very early on.

According to my parents, it was love at first sight! They often shared stories of how I’d entertain myself as a toddler for hours, with my ever-present yellow blankie and a book.

That love of literature continued as I grew. I spent summers curled up inside with a book, while most other kids my age were outside playing sports or attending summer camp.

As a young adult, reading for pleasure took a back seat to university textbooks. I yearned for the days when exams would be over, so I could get back into a great book!

Inspired by my mom, I spent many of my high school and university years working part time with children in various capacities. I worked in daycares, summer camps and Kumon centres as a math and reading tutor.

Working directly with both preschool and school-aged children allowed me to gain a true appreciation for children’s literature. Specifically, its ability to teach, entertain, inspire and soothe.

After university, I decided to enter the corporate world, where I have spent the past 13 years.

Most recently, I have become a mother of two young boys, which has allowed me to rediscover the magic of children’s books. A fascinating place, where a child can be transported to a world of their making, just through the turn of a page.

It is this magic that has inspired me to pick up a pen and begin writing, not only for my children, but for children everywhere.

Happy Reading!
